Fly Qantas from Perth to London non-stop in 2018. Book your seat now!

It’s the flight Aussies have been waiting for.

Depth Travel is currently taking bookings for Qantas’ direct Perth-London route which goes on sale today! Currently priced from $2,270 for a return economy fare, the fare is expected to drop to under $2,000 during sales.

The 18-hour service will become the world’s longest non-stop Boeing 787 flight, and is billed a game changer for the airline and the Australian tourism industry.

What you need to know
  • Flights are on sale from noon (AEST) today.
  • Qantas will use a Boeing 787-9 for the route, which will launch on 24 March 2018.
  • Departing Perth at 6.50pm, the flight arrives at London’s Heathrow Airport at 5.10am the next day.
  • The return flight departs London at 1.30pm, landing at Perth the next day at 1.15pm
  • Travellers seeking greater comfort during the marathon flight will pay $4,250 for a Premium Economy seat or $9,725 in Business Class.

The fare announcement coincides with the revelation Melbourne residents will lose their Qantas A380 service to London via Dubai with the aircraft redeployed to Asia for seasonal peak periods.

It will be replaced with the 787-9 service to London via Perth, in a move that will reduce the length of the trip by 90 minutes.

It comes as Emirates announces it will upgrade its third daily flight from Melbourne to Dubai from a Boeing 777 service to an A380, with connections to Europe, adding 945 seats per week from March 25, 2018.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said there had been global interest in the Perth-London flights since they were announced in December 2016.

“We’ve said the Qantas Dreamliner is a game changer, and that’s becoming real today,” Mr Joyce said.

“We’re conscious that this is a long flight, but not much longer than our Sydney to Dallas service. It’s the kind of route that the Dreamliner was created for, because of its built-in features to reduce jetlag and improve the overall travel experience.

“We’ve added a very high level of comfort in each of the cabins and a lower seat count than most of our competitors. And we’re making tweaks to our in-flight service designed to help customers enjoy the journey more.”

Mr Joyce said direct routes tended to stimulate new travel demand by making it easier to get to a destination – something that will benefit the West Australian economy and Australian tourism more broadly.

“This route makes Western Australia a new tourism gateway for Australia. We know from our research that there’s a lot of appetite to explore the West, not just from British and European visitors but also from Aussies on their way to London. A lot of business travellers, particularly in the resources sector, will stop off in Perth on their way to the UK,” he said.

Australian Business Traveller editor David Flynn said at first glance the fares seemed “fairly pricey”.

“There’s clearly a premium to be paid for flying non-stop, or even taking the Boeing 787 all the way from Melbourne to London via Perth,” said Mr Flynn.

“Those fares will become more competitive during sale periods, but not everybody will want to spend 17-plus hours in the air. For many travellers, a stop-over won’t just be a matter of economics but sanity.”

A 32-inch seat pitch in economy will provide passengers with an inch of extra wriggle room during the flight which shaves three hours off current travel time to London.

Antarctica Tour with Depth

Once a year we create a superlative travel experience for our clients. These are truly once in a lifetime and highly exclusive.

To make the journey more intimate and memorable, these tours are reserved for only small groups of our most discerning clients.

To ensure that every detail is perfect, a member of our executive team will escort you.

Our next 18 day Tour with Depth departs on 25 February 2018 for Antarctica. It will be personally escorted by our general manager, +Harry Zaharopoulos , who is a veteran of travel to this amazing destination.

A taste of what you can expect...

There is nothing quite like the surreal remoteness, extreme cold or enormous ice shelves of Antarctica. Whether whale watching across the open seas, spying a penguin rookery or kayaking across the icy waters, the polar ice cap offers an experience like no other.

The journey begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the luxurious Melia Recoleta Hotel for 4 nights before flying to Ushuaia, Argentina to visit the southernmost post office in the world.

We then board the Russian icebreaker, “Akademik Loffe” for the expedition to Antarctica. This vessel is chartered for the journey and apart from its accommodation and great hospitality it is a working research vessel.

Once on board the real adventure begins with towering glaciers, amazing wildlife encounters, snow-covered landscapes and massive icebergs.

With the “Akademik Loffe” as our mother ship we will explore by Zodiac the coastline making 2 to 3 shore landings with expert guides. You have the option to camp on the ice, go sea kayaking and hiking or take in lectures from biologists who specialise in marine mammals.

Antarctica is a bucket list destination for most people and what better way to see it than on a Tour with Depth?

- 10 nights Antarctic Peninsula expedition cruise aboard “Akademik Loffe”
- 4 nights at the luxurious, Melia Recoleta Hotel in Buenos Aires

The excellence is back at Depth Travel

Depth Travel’s brand promise is “For Excellence in Travel”. I was one of the original founders in 1998 and honestly speaking I think the company has failed to really “live” that promise consistently for our clients in recent years and progression stalled. This is no longer the case. My executive team and I have been busy re engineering, optimising and transforming every aspect of our business and service to you to ensure it is truly excellent and world class.

Like all other Depth companies our approach is to uncompromisingly deliver our clients the best service and technology available at affordable prices. Depth Travel has an expanded service offering, a greater corporate travel focus and a range of new initiatives.

My team and I are there for you more than ever before with a true 24/7 service available by phone on our new toll free number 1DEPTH (133784) or you can reach us on LIVE chat via our new website.

If you haven’t booked with us recently I hope that you might give us another opportunity to prove to you that we do have our “excellence” back with a vengeance and demonstrate our new capabilities and strengths.

I would welcome your call and any feedback you may have for me, good or bad, that may help us in our pursuit of excellence.
